Lizard Varanus Salvator : Habitat and Food

Ordinary water monitor lizard (Varanus salvator)
Lizards usually live not far from the waters, usually in moist forests, grasslands and around the lower reaches of the river. In urban areas, monitor lizards are often found in sewer drains that lead to rivers. Lizards eat a variety of foods, ranging from insects, planets, various types of frogs, fish, small reptiles, birds, and small mammals such as mice and recesses. Large species like Komodo also prey on large animals such as deer or wild pigs. Lizards also often steal and eat eggs or prey on birds. Often found monitor lizards take and eat turtle eggs, turtles or crocodile eggs.

Habits and Reproduction of Lizards

Monitor lizards are very good at climbing and swimming. In the mating season, male monitor lizards usually fight first to show their power or to clash female monitor lizards. The monitor lizard is held while ‘standing up’. The two monitor lizards then hit or repel each other while standing on their hind legs, so that it looked like dancing together. Breeding propaganda is by laying eggs. Monitor lizards are stored in sand or mud on the banks of the river, mixed with rotten leaves and twigs. The temperature around the nest greatly influences the sex of baby lizards that will hatch. If the temperature is high, the male baby will hatch more, and vice versa, if it is low, the baby girl hatches more
